Commuters were hit with travel disruption on the TfL network during Monday morning’s rush hour because of signalling failures and faulty trains.
Delays hit the Central, Metropolitan, Jubilee, Northern, Piccadilly and Victoria lines, while the Elizabeth line also witnessed minor delays, according to the TfL website.
Worst-affected was the Central line, which was experiencing severe delays due to a “shortage of trains,” while the Piccadilly line also saw severe disruption because of a signal failure at Earls Court.
Shortly after 10am TfL said the Piccadilly line had been part suspended.
Minor delays were caused on the Jubilee because of a signalling failure in the Stratford area, while a signalling fault also caused delays on the Metropolitan line.
Meanwhile, faulty trains caused delays on the Northern line between Camden Town and Edgware and Camden Town and Kennington, and on the Victoria line.
One commuter caught up in the disruption on the Central line said in a message to TfL: “How about a discounted fare since it's twice in a row I need a Central line since Friday?
“Managed the Elizabeth line instead but that's higher in fare. Wouldn't mind so much if fares weren't extortionate already.”
Another added: “How do TfL and Mayor of London think it is in any way acceptable that the Central line is constantly running with severe delays due to "lack of trains"?
“Especially with the cost of transport?? Where did the trains go? On holiday?”
On the Central line in the evening commuters again faced severe delays due to a shortage of trains.
There were also delays on the Piccadilly line between Acton Town and Uxbridge due to shortage of trains.
It comes amid a series of planned closures on the London transport network this weekend.
No service will run between Abbey Wood and Paddington on the Elizabeth line.
Trains will instead operate between Shenfield and Liverpool Street National Rail station, not serving Whitechapel, and between Paddington and Heathrow Terminal 4 / Heathrow Terminal 5 / Reading.
Part closures are also in effect on the Metropolitan and Piccadilly lines, and on some routes on the London Overground.
