If left tackles are considered a quarterback’s best friends, then Dolphins star QB Tua Tagovailoa and LT Terron Armstead may have some serious soul-searching to do ahead of Week 2.
Wednesday’s Dolphins practice provided fans with a peek into the pair’s day-to-day courtesy of Tagovailoa, who told reporters about his eventful trip to work. Unfortunately, for Armstead, the subject of the story, Tua’s hilarious retelling focused on him seeing a teammate broken down on the side of the road, and his decision to leave him there.
“Terron had his car broken down, and I think I’m a bad teammate because I passed him and I didn’t come back,” a chuckling Tagovailoa admitted during his media availability. “But, like, I wasn’t gonna pull off to the shoulder and just reverse and be like, ‘Yo, Terron, I’m coming to get you!’”
After claiming he “wasn’t sure” if the person was Armstead, who’s listed at six-foot-5 and 304 pounds, Tagovailoa’s story went from bad from worse when he admitted another condemning detail. The 25-year-old also shared the awkwardly insightful epiphany he later had when talking about the comical situation at the team facility.
“I didn’t know what he drove, too,” he said. “So, it was one of those things where I was like, ‘Hey Drew. I think that was Terron on the side.’ ‘Yeah, that was him.’ I was, like, ‘Well, I’m here already so I can’t go back.’”

Given Tagovailoa’s reaction to his guy’s moment of crisis, Wednesday’s moment certainly didn’t make Year 2 in Miami any smoother for Armstead, who missed Week 1 with numerous injuries.
Needless to say, here’s to hoping Armstead doesn’t hold his QB’s actions against him too much should the four-time Pro Bowler make his 2023 debut for Sunday night’s showdown against the Patriots.
