Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa “has not had any lingering issues from the concussion and would play right now if he could,” according to Dianna Russini of The Athletic.
Tagovailoa, 26, can’t yet return to the Dolphins’ lineup after he was placed on injured reserve prior to the team’s Week 3 game against the Seattle Seahawks. The roster move, made less than a week after Tagovailoa suffered a concussion in Week 2, meant the quarterback was required to miss at least four games before returning to the active roster. The team’s Week 7 game against the Indianapolis Colts will be the fourth without Tagovailoa.
That clears the way for Tagovailoa to return to practice and start against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 8, which is reportedly the team’s plan, according to Russini.
It’s welcomed news for the Dolphins, who have struggled to get going offensively in 2024. After leading the league in offensive yardage last season, Miami is averaging just 12 points through its first five games — the worst rate in the NFL.
In Tagovailoa’s absence, the Dolphins turned first to Skylar Thompson to start at quarterback before pivoting to former Baltimore Ravens passer Tyler Huntley. The road game against the Colts will be Huntley’s third start with the Dolphins.
