Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader and Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Chairman Payyavula Keshav on Wednesday criticised the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) for not resolving the problems of the devotees waiting for darshan at the Tirumala temple.
In a statement on Wednesday, Mr. Keshav asked why the TTD, which had the capacity to make facilities for a lakh of devotees, did not erect tents this summer. The devotees faced problems as the authorities did not allot 1,500 rooms in Tirumala, he said.
The Joint Executive Officer remained at Vontimitta, much ahead of the Chief Minister’s visit there, he said. “The TTD’s wrong decisions are causing needless pain and embarrassment to the devotees,” he alleged.
The TDP MLA also said that a situation had emerged in Tirumala that all sections, cutting across political affiliations, should have to join the fight for better deal to the devotees.
The pilgrims from other States were afraid to come to Tirumala for darshan upon hearing about the prevailing situation. The TTD should initiate measures on a war- footing to create facilities to the satisfaction of the devotees, he said.
‘No full time EO’
Meanwhile, another TDP leader S. Chandramohan Reddy, addressing a press conference, said the government had not yet appointed a full time Executive Officer for the TTD.
Mr. Reddy slammed Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy for not taking action against those involved in diversion of ₹144 crore funds belonging to the TTD.
