TIRUPATI: Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams executive officer AV Dharma Reddy led the temple trust's "Sundara Tirumala-Shuddh Tirumala" campaign from the forefront on Sunday.
Following the clarion call given by the TTD EO, the temple trust's workforce irrespective of their cadres voluntarily participated in the "Sundara Tirumala-Suddha Tirumala" programme on Sunday to transform the hill shrine into a green and garbage free environment providing a healthy and divine ambience to the visiting devotees.
Speaking to reporters after personally taking part in the mass cleaning drive, AV Dharma Reddy said the sanitation workers engaged by the TTD went on a flash strike without giving notice to the management.
However, the temple trust roped in sanitation workers from Tirupati, Chittoor and Nellore municipal corporations, to keep the environs of the Tirumala town clean despite the strike.
He said of the 8,000 - 10,000 permanent and contract employees which also includes the senior officers and the administrative top brass of the temple body, nearly 600-700 employees were allotted cleaning duty on deputation at Tirumala.
The EO said the crisis is being resolved by issuing work orders to five different agencies who are now recruiting sanitary workers from several districts.
The TTD has provided adequate salaries, all perks including Srivari Darshan, laddu Prasadams etc to the sanitation workers now joining the workforce through new agencies.
