Trying out the McDonald's code that cuts cost of a meal to £1.99

A code that instantly reduces the cost of a McDonald's meal to £1.99 has been discovered by shoppers. Fans claim they are paying under £2 for a Big Mac with regular fries - that would usually cost £5.28 - by using the code.

A video revealing the cash-saving hack was uploaded to the LatestDeals Tik Tok, where it has been viewed more than 20,000 times. It claims to show a keying in an order from one of the digital menu screens located in many branches of the fast-food giant, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Items included are: Big Mac and fries or salad, McChicken Sandwich and fries or salad, or the Vegetable Deluxe and fries or salad. It was tested by LatestDeals.co.uk and appeared to work, but many comments under the Tik Tok video suggested otherwise.

Reporter Nicole Wootton-Cane tried out the code at the Manchester Oxford Road McDonald's, and it wasn't as easy as the uploaded footage indicated. These are the instructions:

On the top left hand side of the home screen there is a button that says vouchers. Press that, and it will take you to a screen where you need to enter the code. Type in the numbers 817 336 06, and the video claims, you'll be able to select the meal you want for £1.99.

But when Nicole typed in the code, she was met with the error message: 'Code not recognised'. So something appears to have gone wrong.

Meanwhile, McDonald's has confirmed one of its most controversial burgers will be returning to the menu. The McSpicy is returning - but to make way for it, some things are being axed.

The McSpicy, which was last on the McDonald’s menu in July 2021, costs £4.29 for just a burger, or £5.79 for a medium meal. The fast-food giant is also bringing back the Grand Big Mac as part of its latest menu upgrade.

It contains the same ingredients as a regular Big Mac, but is bigger. The Grand Big Mac costs £4.79 for a Grand Big Mac burger, or £6.29 for a medium meal. The Grand Big Mac with Bacon, is priced at £5.29 for the burger, or £6.69 for a medium meal.

McDonald’s diners will also be able to tuck into Cheesy Garlic Bites for £1.99 from next week. The restaurant chain is also bringing back its Flake Raspberry and Flake Chocolate McFlurries, prices at 99p for a mini size of £1.39 for a regular.

But the new menu additions mean customers will have to bid farewell to some fan favourites. The Big Tasty has been phased out along with its other flavours The Big Tasty with Bacon and The Big Tasty BBQ.

McDonald's will also get rid of the Homestyle Crispy Chicken burger, Chilli Cheese Bites and the Creme Egg McFlurry and Cadbury Caramel McFlurry.
