Trying one of the 2,100 new hospital beds set to be rolled out across Nottingham

Around 2,100 beds across Nottingham's Queen's Medical Centre and City Hospital are set to be replaced for the first time in almost two decades from next month. Their more high tech replacements are designed to make life easier for both staff and patients. Reporter Joel Moore tried the bed out himself.

Nottingham University Hospitals is replacing its beds for the first time since it was incepted as a trust. Whilst on a visit to Medstrom, the company responsible for supplying all of the beds, in Castle Donnington, I was given a chance to feel the difference.

The bed I tried, able to lift higher and drop lower than previous models, meant myself as a man below 80 and a clean bill of health wouldn't have been able to feel the full benefits. I was therefore rented an empathy suit - an outfit of weights and straps designed to make you feel 'elderly'.
