Ireland's proud film history went to a new level yesterday after the country received a total of 14 Oscar nominations.
Leading the Irish success was Martin McDonagh's The Banshees of Inisherin which bagged a total of nine nominations. The critically acclaimed film received nods for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Film Editing and Best Original Score.
The movie's four main actors were also recognised with Colin Farrell up for Best Actor, Kerry Condon for Best Supporting Actress and Barry Keoghan and Brendan Gleeson battling it out for Best Supporting Actor. Farrell will go up against Paul Mescal, who was also nominated in the Best Actor category for Aftersun.

Rounding out a brilliant day for Irish film, An Cailín Ciúin (The Quiet Girl) was nominated for Best International Feature Film, Irish editor Jonathan Redmond was recognised for Best Editing for his work on Elvis, Dubliner Richard Baneham was included among nominees for Best Visual Effects for his work in Avatar: The Way of Water 's and Northern Irish film An Irish Goodbye was nominated for Best Live-Action Short.
