Trump v Pope: Why American-born Leo may not visit US while Trump is president

Tensions remains high between American-born Pope Leo and President Donald Trump, raising doubts about whether the Pope will visit the United States during Trump’s presidency.

The latest flashpoint in the feud appears to center on disagreements over the Iran war, with the pontiff criticizing US involvement over the past few weeks.

This comes after the Pentagon reportedly convened an “unprecedented” meeting with Pope Leo’s personal envoy to the United States, Cardinal Christophe Pierre, back in January, issuing a sharp warning against criticism of US foreign policy.

In response, Pope Leo has now reportedly declined Trump’s invitation to attend the nation’s 250th anniversary celebrations, according to The Free Press.
