On Easter Sunday, President Donald Trump shared a video of Somali families shopping at the Mall of America with the Tears for Fears song “Mad World,” as if suggesting that people of color enjoying an afternoon at the mall was a sign of societal decay.
It’s just one of many alarming posts the president made over the holiday weekend.
Trump provided no caption of his own for the post, but the subtext was clear. The Mall of America, a large shopping and entertainment complex with hundreds of stores, restaurants, and an indoor theme park, is located in Bloomington, just south of Minneapolis. The footage reportedly dates from 2024, and the families were celebrating the end of Ramadan.
In his second term, Trump has repeatedly singled out Somali immigrants in Minnesota through rhetoric and policy actions, including publicly disparaging the community, linking it to alleged fraud schemes, and calling for sweeping immigration restrictions, while also advancing measures such as terminating Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Somali nationals.
He has also ordered reviews of Somali-issued green cards, and directed intensified immigration enforcement operations in the Minneapolis–St. Paul area, where the largest Somali population in the U.S. resides.

Journalist Don Lemon, a Trump critic, reshared Trump’s Truth Social post without a caption on TikTok. One comment noted,
Even if not for the good of all humanity, can’t someone take his damn phone and save him from himself? and US!?!

Several other comments reiterated the “take the phone away” sentiment. Another added, “The messaging is, ‘I see brown people as inferior. This mall would look better with white Americans.’ That’s it, that’s all. This is absolutely disgusting,” referring to Trump’s post.

The president spent Easter weekend sharing a series of other controversial posts, and did not attend any Easter Sunday church services this year.
On Easter Sunday morning, Trump issued an expletive‑laden message on Truth Social aimed at Iran, demanding that Tehran open the Strait of Hormuz or “you’ll be living in Hell – JUST WATCH!” and threatening to target Iranian infrastructure, including “Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day” if the Strait remained closed.
Crucially, deliberately attacking civilian infrastructure like power plants or bridges could constitute a war crime under international law, depending on context and intent.
In addition to the Iran threat, the weekend’s digital activity included Trump’s continued online tirades that critics said blurred religious symbolism with military rhetoric and fueled concerns about presidential tone and fitness for office.
Meanwhile, concern about Trump’s health resurfaced when social media speculation spiked after he canceled public appearances on Saturday. Physician Dr. Vin Gupta told MS NOW that Trump appeared “erratic,” suggesting he’s “exhibiting all the signs of dementia.”
The White House denied rumors that Trump was hospitalized or ill, saying he worked “nonstop” over the weekend, and pushed back against online speculation as unfounded, though debate over his age and fitness continues in political and media circles.
