Nearly 1 million Americans are receiving $500 Obamacare refunds as the Trump administration returns what it says are excess Affordable Care Act marketplace fees collected under Biden. The Treasury Department is sending the one-time payments to more than 950,000 policyholders across 30 states using HealthCare.gov who bought 2026 coverage without receiving federal premium tax credits.
Each recipient is also receiving a letter signed by President Donald Trump, who claims the Biden administration overcharged Americans to fund HealthCare.gov. But that allegation has not been independently established, and ABC News reported that Trump has provided no evidence that the Biden administration improperly held surplus marketplace funds.
