- President Donald Trump has demanded that Democratic Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed go through Capitol metal detectors if elected, falsely accusing him of ties to the Muslim Brotherhood .
- “I’m here to keep a Jihadist Muslim Brotherhood member from becoming a United States senator,” Trump said at a rally in Port Huron, Michigan, Sunday afternoon as he spewed attacks at the Democrat. El-Sayed has vehemently denied any ties to the Islamist organization. Trump said El-Sayed “should never be allowed inside the halls of our great, beautiful Capitol building in Washington, D.C.,”
- “He would be the only senator that will have to go through a metal detector before he's allowed to go into the Senate . I want him to have a metal detector,” Trump said. “If Abdul gets to the Senate, he would have access to our nation's most closely guarded national security secrets, and his vote would wield power over our military, our borders, our homeland security, and much more than that.”
- El-Sayed has vehemently denied the allegations, reiterating his allegiance to the U.S. Constitution as he maintains a narrow lead over Republican opponent Mike Rogers. Former President Barack Obama campaigned for El-Sayed in Detroit, criticising Trump over the ongoing military conflict in Iran.
- Trump is facing a 61% disapproval rating ahead of the midterm elections amid public dissatisfaction with the economy and foreign policy. Voters highlighted lowering the cost of living and ending the Iran war as their primary concerns for the upcoming Congress .
