Donald Trump has said the US will not ban diesel exports after the UK and other leading G7 nations bowed to White House pressure and agreed to release 100 million barrels of fuel and oil from emergency stocks.
Speaking on Friday (2 October), as he left the White House for Alabama on the campaign trail, the president suggested the idea had never been an option.
"Europe has a lot of diesel, and they're going to be making a major world contribution, and so are we," he said. "And we're not going to be doing the export ban."
Asked by a reporter whether the ban was now off the table, he replied: "We were never going to do it."
Trump had said several times in recent weeks that a ban was under consideration.
