In a recent development in the Middle East, the United States carried out a series of airstrikes on more than a dozen Iranian-backed militant targets across Yemen. The targeted sites included radar systems, drone storage, launch sites, as well as storage and launch sites for ballistic and cruise missiles. President Biden issued a statement stating that these strikes were in direct response to the repeated attacks by Houthi rebels on international ships in the Red Sea. He also warned that further strikes could be carried out if necessary.
The Houthi rebels have been launching relentless attacks on ships in the Red Sea since November, with the recent surge occurring during the Israel-Hamas conflict. The Pentagon reported that this latest attack marked the 27th by the Houthi group in the area within a span of two months.
