WASHINGTON — Former President Donald Trump saw a drop of contributions from the army of donors who’ve combined to give tens of millions of dollars to his political operation in the wake of his loss in the 2020 election.
During the financial reporting period, six televised hearings of the House committee investigating the assault on the U.S. Capitol took place. The session considered most damaging to Trump, featuring testimony from Cassidy Hutchinson, a former White House aide, unfolded on June 28, too late to have a significant effect on Trump’s haul.
The former president’s Save America Joint Fundraising Committee took in $17 million in the second quarter, down from the $19 million it raised in the previous three months, according to its latest filing with the Federal Election Commission. Small-dollar donors, those giving less than $200, accounted for 36% of the total.
