Donald Trump has signed an executive order calling for the dismantling of the US Department of Education, an act that is likely to enrage Democrats and lead to a battle in Congress.

Flanked by school children sitting at desks, the Republican president announced on Thursday that the department would be dismantled – calling it wasteful and polluted by liberal ideology.
