Trump Rejected Deal To Pay TSA Agents, Restore DHS Funding: Report

President Trump rejected a deal that would have provided funding for TSA agents, according to a report.

Punchbowl News reported that Republican Senate Majority Leader John Thune presented an option to Trump where the Department of Homeland Security would receive funding, except for ICE. However, the ICE funding would later gain approval through areconciliation bill that would not ned the vote of Democrats.

Essentially, the solution would end the stalemate over DHS funding and allow Democrats to not vote for ICE funding. Punchbowl News reported that Trump rejected the deal.

In a post on social media this weekend, Trump referenced the SAVE America Act. That act would prevent state's from registering an individual to vote in a federal election unless they have documentary proof of U.S. citizenship. Analysts have pointed out that the documentation requirement goes beyond a driver's license and would require many Americans to track down a passport or birth certificate.

"I don't think we should make any deal with the Crazy, Country Destroying, Radical Left Democrats unless, and until, they Vote with Republicans to pass 'THE SAVE AMERICA ACT.' It is far more important than anything else we are doing in the Senate," Trump wrote. "Let Leader Thune clearly identify those few 'Republicans' that are Voting against AMERICA. They will never be elected again!"

Punchbowl News reported that the Thune deal would fund DHS without caving to Democratic demands such as banning masks for federal agents or requiring judicial warrants for some operations.

The deal also would have paid TSA agents who have gone without paychecks for five weeks. The standoff has begun to affect air travel as unpaid TSA agents stop working, and security lines at airports have begun to lengthen.
