Trump Praises Giant Eagle's Price Cuts, Urges Other Grocery Chains to Follow: 'Stepping Up in a Big and Bold Way'

Washington,,January,30,2025:,President,Donald,Trump,Speaks,At - EK

President Donald Trump said Giant Eagle’s decision to lower prices on more than 300 products shows his efforts to reduce costs for American families are gaining momentum, while calling on other grocery retailers to follow the company’s lead.

Giant Eagle Announces Summer Price Cuts

On Sunday, Trump said in a Truth Social post that Giant Eagle would cut prices across hundreds of products through Labor Day to help consumers.

"Wonderful news! I have just been informed that Giant Eagle, a GREAT American Grocery Company, will be lowering Prices, by a lot, across more than 300 products this Summer, through Labor Day, to help hardworking American families," he wrote.

He compared Giant Eagle’s move with Walmart Inc. (NASDAQ:WMT) price-cutting efforts, saying both companies were responding to his push for lower costs.

"Giant Eagle, like Walmart, is stepping up in a big and bold way to answer my call to lower costs for working families," Trump said.

He also said prices for oil, gas, eggs and prescription drugs were falling, crediting his administration while criticizing former President Joe Biden’s economic policies.

"We will continue to bring Prices DOWN, just like Oil, Gas, Eggs, and Prescription Drugs, all of which are dropping FAST," Trump wrote.

He added, "Other Grocery Chains must immediately follow the lead of these absolute Patriots at Giant Eagle and Walmart."

Critics Warn Trump Policies Could Fuel Inflation Risks

Earlier, Democratic lawmakers and economists criticized President Trump’s economic policies, arguing that inflation pressures remained a challenge for American households.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) said Trump’s wealth had increased by $1.4 billion while wages failed to keep pace with rising prices, reducing workers’ purchasing power.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) also criticized Trump’s "I love the inflation" remark, saying many Americans were still struggling with higher costs for essentials such as gas and groceries.

Investor Ross Gerber blamed government policies for fueling inflation concerns and bond market volatility.

Economist Peter Schiff argued that rising deficits and Federal Reserve policies, rather than tariffs or geopolitical tensions, posed the biggest inflation risks.
