Former President Donald Trump commended the FBI for their handling of the investigation into his recent assassination attempt. During a news conference, Trump expressed his approval of the FBI's work in addressing the incident.
The FBI had approached Trump regarding the shooter involved in the attempt on his life, and he acknowledged their efforts, stating, 'I think they’ve done a very good job, and I think they did a very good job with respect to this other lunatic that they have in custody.'
The individual in custody, a Pakistani man with alleged ties to the Iranian government, was arrested in New York. The Justice Department charged him with attempting to carry out political assassinations, as revealed in court documents unsealed earlier this week.
According to a US official briefed on the matter, FBI investigators believe that Trump, along with other current and former US government officials, were the intended targets of the assassination plot.
Victim interviews, such as the one Trump participated in with the FBI following the attempted assassination at a rally in July, are standard procedures in criminal investigations and are conducted on a voluntary basis.
