Former President Donald Trump made his first post on X in nearly a year on Monday, ahead of his scheduled conversation with X owner and Tesla CEO Elon Musk later in the day.
The video, lasting over two minutes, features news coverage of the federal search of Mar-a-Lago in August 2022 and Trump's indictments by the Justice Department. In the video, Trump reiterates his belief that he is a victim of what he terms as 'political persecution' and emphasizes his commitment to defending the nation.
Trump is heard in the video stating, 'I never thought anything like this could happen in America. The only crime that I have committed is to fearlessly defend our nation from those who seek to destroy it.' He also emphasizes the importance of perseverance in the face of adversity.
The video includes familiar lines from Trump's campaign speeches, such as 'They want to take away my freedom because I will never let them take away your freedom' and 'They're not coming after me. They're coming after you, and I just happen to be standing in their way.'
Trump and Musk are set to have a live conversation on the platform at 8 p.m. ET on Monday. This marks Trump's first interaction on the platform since posting a photo of his mugshot from August 24, 2023, following his processing at an Atlanta jail in the Georgia election subversion case.
