President Donald Trump has directed his Justice Department to pause enforcement of the TikTok ban until early April, raising questions about the legality and implications of his order. The ban, which was set to take effect last Sunday, was temporarily halted by Trump's executive order signed on Monday. This move allows for a 75-day period for the administration to determine the best course of action regarding TikTok's national security concerns.
Under a federal law upheld by the Supreme Court, TikTok's parent company ByteDance was required to sell the platform to an approved buyer by the deadline or face a nationwide ban. Despite the ban briefly rendering TikTok unusable for U.S. users, the platform came back online on Sunday following Trump's intervention.
