Former president Donald Trump reportedly went through multiple boxes of presidential documents himself, The New York Times reported late on Monday evening – and according to multiple sources, the federal government has reportedly recovered a total of 300 classified documents since Mr Trump left the White House.
This includes some 150 documents handed in at the start of this year after it first became clear the former president had transported papers to Mar-a-Lago with him rather than turning them in under the Presidential Records Act.
Meanwhile, after a surprising stretch of inaction by his legal team, Mr Trump has officially filed a response to the raid at Mar-a-Lago in the form of lawsuit demanding that the documents seized by the Justice Department be overseen by a special master to determine whether any are covered by attorney-cliane privilege.
Judge Bruce Reinhart, who approved the original search warrant, is weighing whether to order the redacted release of an affidavit that led to the authorisation for the search — or whether to keep it sealed completely.
