Trump is Now Less Popular Than Biden On The Economy, a New Poll Shows

President Trump's approval rating on the economy is 26 percent.

Americans do not think President Donald Trump is doing a good job of managing the economy, and his approval numbers are now worse than former President Joe Biden's on the issue, a new survey showed.

An Associated Press-NORC poll had just 26 percent of Americans approving of Trump on the economy. The AP noted that in 2022, Biden's approval rating on the economy was at 28 percent.

The poll also found that Americans blame the president and his policies for their dissatisfaction with the economy. "Americans are increasingly frustrated with President Trump about the cost of living these days, and most hold him responsible for higher-than-usual prices," the document states.

65 percent of respondents said prices are higher because of the president's policies. The president fares better with Republicans, most of whom - 67 percent - say that higher prices are due to factors beyond his control. By comparison, AP-NORC noted that in October 2022, only 44 percent of the public blamed President Biden for higher cost of living and 87 percent of Democrats said the prices were beyond his control.

In general, people said they were let down by Trump's handling of inflation. The poll found that 69 percent of the public said they were disappointed with his handling of cost-of-living issues, and that included 52 percent of Republicans. Most people, 61 percent, believe the economy is worse off now than when President Trump took office.

The poll's findings align with others that have found Trump's approval rating headed in the wrong direction. The Silver Bulletin website, which tracks numerous polls and creates a composite score, has Trump's approval rating on the economy only slightly higher at 32.5 percent.

The website noted on September 30 that Trump's overall approval rating was near an all-time low. The site had 37.7 percent of the country approving of Trump's performance and 59.9 percent disapproving.

According to the AP-NORC poll, most Americans believe that the national economy and local economy are worse now than when Trump took office. "Most Americans (73 percent) say the country is heading in the wrong direction, including 92 percent of Democrats and 47 percent of Republicans," the poll stated.
