Former President Donald Trump’s campaign has requested North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper and the state legislature to expand voter access for those affected by Hurricane Helene. The campaign managers outlined 10 actions aimed at ensuring that individuals impacted by the storm can still exercise their right to vote in the upcoming election.
The campaign is urging North Carolina leaders to allow voters to cast their ballots on Election Day in any part of the county, not limited to their local precinct. They are also advocating for the expansion of bipartisan election official teams to assist voters in requesting and delivering absentee ballots.
In addition, the campaign is seeking permission for displaced voters to deliver their absentee ballots in the county they are currently residing in or to the state board. Displaced voters should also have the option to vote with a provisional ballot on Election Day.
Emergency funds are being requested for communication with voters regarding updated voting methods. The campaign is proposing the use of temporary structures as voting locations in affected counties and the prompt return of absentee ballots to the voter’s county board.
Furthermore, the campaign is asking for the waiver of the county residency requirement for poll workers and observers in impacted areas. They are also seeking flexibility in Early Voting site times, including the opportunity for voting on Sundays, in the affected counties.
These measures are aimed at ensuring that individuals affected by Hurricane Helene do not lose their right to participate in the election. By expanding voter access and providing necessary accommodations, the campaign hopes to facilitate a smooth voting process for all eligible voters in North Carolina.
