Former President Donald Trump’s campaign is raising concerns about the upcoming September 10 debate on a news agency due to a disagreement over the debate rules. The campaign is pushing for the microphones to be muted except for the candidate speaking, similar to the first debate with President Joe Biden.
On the other hand, the Harris campaign is advocating for live microphones for both candidates throughout the entire broadcast. This marks a shift from the June debate when the Biden campaign requested muted microphones except during a candidate’s speaking turn.
Brian Fallon, senior adviser for communications in the Harris campaign, expressed that they believe both candidates should have live microphones during the debate. He suggested that Trump’s team prefers muted microphones because they doubt their candidate's ability to maintain a presidential demeanor for the full 90 minutes without assistance.
Trump’s campaign, however, insists that they agreed to the debate under the same terms as the previous one and are frustrated with the ongoing dispute. Jason Miller, a senior adviser in the Trump campaign, emphasized their acceptance of the debate based on the terms of the previous event.
The debate between the two campaigns remains uncertain as the disagreement over microphone rules continues. Both sides are standing firm on their positions, setting the stage for a potential showdown over the debate format.
