Trump calls Supreme Court’s birthright decision ‘too bad’ and urges Congress to act

  • President Donald Trump has called on Congress to act after the Supreme Court upheld birthright citizenship , striking down an executive order that tried to limit protections.
  • Trump had declared that children born to parents who are in the United States illegally or temporarily are not American citizens.
  • “The Supreme Court upheld Birthright Citizenship, which is too bad for our Country, but we can easily make it up in Congress through Legislation, with the support of the President, that has now been determined during this process,” Trump wrote on Truth Social a few hours after the Supreme Court ruling .
  • He continued, “No long and unwieldy Constitutional Amendment is necessary! Congress should start TODAY to work on ending expensive and unfair to our Country, Birthright Citizenship. They will have my Complete and Total Support!”
  • In the court’s opinion, Chief Justice Roberts said there is “scant evidence” for the Trump administration’s “dramatically revisionist view” of the 14th Amendment and limits on citizenship at birth.
