Donald Trump has sparked fresh controversy after claiming Denmark had effectively handed Greenland to the United States. He described the supposed acquisition as 'the greatest real estate deal in history' during a Republican rally in Georgia.
Speaking to supporters on Saturday, 24 October, the US president insisted that Washington had secured the strategically important Arctic territory following a series of agreements expanding American military access to the region. 'Denmark was so great, they gave us Greenland. You do know that, right? We already have that,' Trump told the crowd. He went on to describe the arrangement as a historic achievement, claiming the media had paid insufficient attention to the agreement.
