Trump calls ballroom construction ruling ‘horrendous’ and demands Supreme Court overturn it

  • President Donald Trump says he will appeal a federal appeals court ruling that orders he halt construction of his White House ballroom until he gets congressional approval for the project.
  • Trump derided the decision as "politically motivated" and "totally wrong" in a Truth Social post and claimed the project, which includes an underground bunker, is crucial for national security, stating going without it would "severely jeopardize the lives and welfare" of White House staff.
  • The D.C. Court of Appeals, in a 2-1 decision, stated that Trump acted unilaterally in demolishing parts of the East Wing to build a 90,000-square-foot space without consulting Congress.
  • The court's ruling specifically permits necessary national security construction, such as the underground bunker and military facility, to continue, while only halting above-ground, non-national security-related elements of the project.
  • “This unjust decision must be overturned by the Supreme Court in its entirety,” Trump wrote. “Thank you for your attention to this deeply important National Security matter!”
