Trump announces $90 Medicare checks for 20 million seniors ahead of midt-term elections: Who gets the payment and when?

US President Donald Trump has announced on Friday that over 20 million “wonderful seniors” will receive $90 Medicare checks this month to help cover Medicare premiums. The eligible Medicare Part B enrollees will receive the one-time $90 Medicare payment via direct deposit or check, the White House announcement said.

In an evening Truth Social post, the president said this money would be sourced from the Medicare Improvement Fund, which he called a “pointless ‘Slush Fund.’” The fund was created by Congress in 2008 to make improvements to the Medicare fee-for-service program.

“We are finally using this Fund, along with my Most Favored Nations Deals, to substantially LOWER costs for our Seniors,” he wrote in the post. “I pledged to protect and preserve Medicare and Social Security, which were on the verge of RUIN by Joe Biden, who foolishly and maliciously let tens of millions of Illegal Aliens into our Country, and we are doing just that for America’s Seniors.”

Who will benefit from Trump's payment?

Over 20 million senior citizens are said to benefit from Trump’s one-time payment. The question now arises who will get the $90 Medicare checks this month. According to New York Post, those whose premiums are already paid by Medicaid or pay an Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amount do not qualify.

“I pledged to protect and preserve Medicare and Social Security, which were on the verge of RUIN by Joe Biden, who foolishly and maliciously let tens of millions of Illegal Aliens into our Country, and we are doing just that for America’s Seniors,” Trump added on Truth Social. Trump’s pledge to seniors comes at a time when his administration has already announced $500 checks for about 950,000 Obamacare enrollees.

Trump to give direct deposit to 20M people

The Trump administration will make a one-time direct deposit of $90 to the over 20 million people enrolled in this program starting early this month, according to a White House fact sheet. Most eligible seniors will receive the payment through direct deposit, while those without direct deposit will receive a check. The standard Medicare Part B premium in 2026 is $202.90 a month, according to Medicare. This new announcement comes when President Trump's approval rating is at an all-time low ahead of the midterm elections, in which the Republican Party is fighting to maintain its control of Congress.

The president clarified the $90 senior payment is “separate from the equally substantial Refund ‘Checks’ we are sending to One Million Americans who were overcharged for their Unaffordable Care Act plans by Joe Biden.”

“Because I delivered on this very important issue for the American People, they can also rest assured the highly popular $5,000 Trump Dividend will be distributed to every US citizen if, and when, the Republicans win the Midterm Elections!,” Trump added.

In his Friday evening post, the president also repeated a promise he made at the GOP’s midterm convention last month to distribute $5,000 checks to every U.S. adult if the GOP keeps its majority in both legislative chambers this fall.

“Because I delivered on this very important issue for the American People, they can also rest assured the highly popular $5,000 Trump Dividend will be distributed to every U.S. Citizen if, and when, the Republicans win the Midterm Elections!” he wrote.
