Just as fighting was set to resume on Tuesday, President Donald Trump announced the extension of a 14-day ceasefire at the eleventh hour, saying Iran’s “seriously fractured” leadership was an obstacle to a peace agreement.
Mr Trump said the military would continue a blockade on Iranian ports until Tehran’s “leaders and representatives can come up with a unified proposal”, following a request from Pakistan.
