The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has proposed a $70,000 fee for every foreign student seeking to participate in the Optional Practical Training (OPT) programme, which allows F-1 students to work in jobs related to their area of study. The proposal would also require schools to pay $30,000 per student for every subsequent OPT recommendation.
The proposed fees are part of the Trump administration's broader efforts to tighten rules for international students and foreign workers. DHS said the measure is aimed at combating fraud and abuse in the OPT programme, strengthening the immigration system and protecting US workers.
