The current season of HBO's True Detective has shattered records, becoming the most-watched installment in the series to date. With its fourth season subtitled Night Country and led by the talented Jodie Foster and Kali Reis, the show has captivated audiences since its premiere on January 14th.

Across all platforms, True Detective: Night Country has been averaging an impressive 12.7 million viewers, surpassing the viewership of the groundbreaking first season that aired a decade ago. During its initial run, season one garnered an average of 11.9 million viewers across platforms, making it the previous record holder. HBO measures viewership within 90 days after a season premiere, demonstrating the enduring popularity of True Detective.

In recent years, streaming has played a significant role in the success of HBO series, and True Detective: Night Country is no exception. The show's first four episodes had an average of approximately 642,000 viewers during their initial airing on HBO. In contrast, the first season attracted around 2.6 million viewers. However, HBO reveals that when factoring in first-night streaming on their streaming platform Max, the show's linear audience more than doubles. The streaming numbers continue to grow even after the initial airing, solidifying the influence of streaming in today's television landscape. It's worth noting that the availability of streaming was more limited for the previous three seasons of True Detective.

HBO further discloses that the fifth episode of Night Country, which premiered two days before the Super Bowl on Max, currently boasts an impressive 5 million viewers across all platforms. These numbers demonstrate the continued interest and support for the show as it progresses through its fourth season.

Comparatively, Night Country's viewership outperforms other notable HBO series. The White Lotus, a critically acclaimed limited series, averaged 10.1 million viewers leading up to its finale. Succession, another beloved HBO show, had its final season attract 8.7 million viewers over a similar time span. True Detective: Night Country's exceptional viewership solidifies its place among HBO's most successful and popular offerings.

As the season progresses, True Detective fans eagerly anticipate the thrilling mysteries and captivating performances that the show is known for. With its exceptional viewership and critical acclaim, Night Country is undoubtedly a must-watch for both long-time fans and newcomers alike.
