A truck driver has been seriously injured following a crash in the early hours of Friday morning.
Emergency services were called to A177 near the Thorpe Thewles area of County Durham at around 1am after a flat-bed recovery truck left the carriageway and collided with a tree. The driver sustained "serious injuries" and was taken to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.
The road was closed for several hours while collision investigators worked at the scene. Police are now keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or with dashcam footage.

Appealing to the public for information, Durham Constabulary said: "Were you on the roads in the early hours of this morning? You could help our investigators.
"Police are appealing for information following a serious collision near Thorpe Thewles. The incident occurred on the A177, on the eastbound carriageway between 1am and 1.10am this morning (May 6).
"It is believed the vehicle, a flat-bed recovery truck left the carriageway and collided with a tree. The driver sustained serious injuries and was taken to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough."
Anyone who is able to help officers with their investigation is asked to contact Durham Constabulary's collision unit on 101 quoting incident number 19 of May 6.
