TRS govt should rectify age error to benefit more people with Aasara pensions: Jagga Reddy

HYDERABAD: The Congress has demanded that the TRS government conduct a door-to-door survey to rectify the “age error” of many senior citizens who are missing out on monthly Aasara pensions.

Due to wrongly mentioned age in their Aadhar cards, the age of many men and women from poorer sections of the society, who are actually above 65 years, is reflected as below 57 years.

"These age errors crept in due to non-availability of birth certificates among other reasons,” said Sanga Reddy MLA T Jayaprakash Jagga Reddy of the Congress.

The state government should direct the Village revenue Assistants or other concerned officials to immediately start holding gram sabhas to know the correct age and take measures to rectify the age errors in the Aadhar cards. The government should ensure that all the eligible people get pensions, he demanded.

Jagga Reddy sought to remind the TRS government that its election-promise of extending the Aasara pensions to people aged between 57 and 65 years is still not been implemented.
