Tropical storm warning lifted for South Florida, with system expected to become Tropical Storm Alex over the ocean

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A tropical storm warning was lifted for South Florida on Saturday afternoon as the low pressure system that could become Tropical Storm Alex was poised to move offshore and over the Atlantic ocean.

Florida’s only area under a tropical storm warning is on the east coast south of the Volusia/Brevard County line to Jupiter Inlet. The northwestern Bahamas are also under a tropical storm warning.

The last of the “heavy” rainbands will pass over South Florida early this afternoon, bringing the possibility of gusts of 40-55 mph, the National Weather Service in Miami said. Heavy rainfall and flooding will linger through the afternoon.
