Tropical Storm Debby Strengthens, Heavy Rainfall Expected In Carolinas

Cars and trucks lie partially submerged in water following heavy rainfall in Dubai

Tropical Storm Debby has intensified slightly as it moves through the warm waters of the Atlantic Ocean. The National Hurricane Center reported that the storm's winds have reached 45 mph in a Wednesday advisory.

The center of the storm is currently positioned approximately 70 miles south of Charleston and 75 miles east-southeast of Savannah. Debby is moving east-southeast at a slow pace of 5 mph.

The forecast indicates that Debby will continue its slow eastward and then northward movement through Thursday night. The storm is expected to gradually move away from the coasts of Georgia and South Carolina, drifting offshore early Thursday before making landfall over South Carolina on Thursday.

Heavy rainfall is a significant concern for the Carolinas as Debby progresses. The National Hurricane Center has issued a high risk of excessive rainfall, with a level 4 out of 4, for various parts of the states. This persistent rainfall is anticipated to impact the region on Wednesday and Thursday.
