The tropics remain active following the inland movement of Tropical Storm Alberto over Mexico, as meteorologists monitor two other potential tropical systems in the region.
A system near the northern Bahamas, east of Florida, poses an immediate threat and could intensify into a tropical depression before reaching the coasts of northeast Florida or Georgia by Friday, according to the National Hurricane Center.
Regardless of development, residents of coastal areas in northeast Florida and Georgia should prepare for numerous showers, gusty winds, and high surf on Friday and Saturday.
Meanwhile, another tropical system is expected to form in the Gulf of Mexico, originating from the same area as Alberto. This system is forecasted to begin near southeastern Mexico and northern Central America on Friday, moving into the Bay of Campeche by Saturday. There is a possibility of gradual development into a tropical depression over the weekend while over water.
Weather models suggest that this system will follow a similar trajectory as Alberto, moving west-northwest towards northeastern Mexico by early next week.
