'Trolls call me fat and send me rape threats - but they won't ruin my job'

A make up artist and influencer who receives disgusting rape and death threats over her appearance says she has to put up with "fat and ginger" jibes every day.

Lucy Regler, from Aberdare in Wales, said she has developed a thick skin over the years but argues no one should have to put up with the abuse she receives.

The 24-year-old said she was left "shaken" after a stranger sent her violent rape threats, which led her to want to raise awareness of cyberbullying.

Lucy said: "I get bullied by trolls literally every day and quite often receive rape or death threats.

"I always say I'm the perfect target. I'm fat, ginger and I have a lisp. But I nobody deserves to go through any sort of bullying or abuse.

"I get called fat, ugly, worthless. I could go on forever, you'd only need to look at my messages and comments to see the abuse."

She said she was good at brushing off the nasty jibes until one man started making explicit threats against her.

"He was threatening me, saying 'I'll come and rape you, then your dog. I will come and batter you.' He was horrid," she recalled.

"I rang the police and reported it, but they discovered he did not live locally, so we did not take it further.

"I was disgusted. It scared me as you don't know what people are like and if they are just threats or if they'll actually go ahead with it."

She said the fact cyberbullies are operating from behind a keyboard makes them braver because they can "hide."

Lucy added: "When you get bullied so much, you question yourself as a person. It's had a huge impact on my mental health.

"Imagine someone calling you worthless, ugly, fat, day in and day out. It will get to you at some point.

"As bad as it can be, my followers keep me going. The number of messages I receive saying I have made someone's day or helped them in some way, makes it all worth it.

"I have a lovely community and have gained so many friends, my job is way more than just painting my face."

She called on online trolls to "get a grip" and think about the consequences of what they're saying to real people.

"You could be the reason someone doesn't get up in the morning," she said.

"You could be the reason someone doesn't have a child, mum, dad, sister, or brother anymore. Your comment could be the last straw for someone - just be kind."

Lucy added: "Please seek help if you're struggling. There is so much support available out there. Block and report the comments and don't bottle it up. A problem shared is a problem halved."
