TRNSMT crowds from Saturday clearly had plenty of energy to spare after The Strokes’ explosive closing set - after joining in with a travelling drummer’s dance party.
“Busking Joe” - aka 26-year-old Joey Swindells - busted out an animalistic instrumental set underneath the railway bridge west of Glasgow Green to the delight of homeward bound festival-goers. He sent ravers wild with his rapid-fire percussion, and got them shouting as part of the routine.
Speaking to the Record after finishing up for the night, Joey said Glaswegian crowds were among his favourite to play for in his work, which sees him performing outside festivals across the UK. He even got a thumbs up from a pair of police officers stood nearby.
He said: “Glaswegians are mint - I’ve been saying how mint they are all day. It’s been a good weekend, everyone has been very generous.”
Joey, who has been playing drums since the age of eight, added: “I’m so wrapped up in playing most of the time but when I look up and see how happy it makes people it’s just amazing.
“I love making people happy through my drumming - it’s the best feeling in the world. And everywhere you go in Glasgow, even if you’re just sitting with a beer, people come and talk to you. They’re the friendliest people around.”
