Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs knows what it’s like to go up against some of the toughest defenders in football since he was originally selected by the Bucs at No. 13 overall in the 2020 NFL draft. One of those happens to be Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan, who recently had some words to say about Wirfs.
“I would put Cam Jordan up there even though he was just talking shit about me,” Wirfs said when asked to name his top five opponents in an appearance on the VikesVerified Podcast. “He said he doesn’t know my name. He says ‘I can beat that bum, that tackle from Tampa Bay 25 times.’ I say pull up 25 clips from the last four years where you beat me, you haven’t. But you don’t see a lot of defensive ends that are Cam’s size. He’s 280, 285 pounds, moving like he does, like running through your face. You don’t see that (often). I’m always real sore after that game. It’s just collision after collision.”
Regardless of any feelings there may be between Jordan and Wirfs, there’s no question about how right Wirfs is about the talent of the Saints defender. Pro Football Focus charting has found Jordan responsible for two of the seven sacks Wirfs has allowed through his career so far.
Also on Wirfs’ list are Micah Parsons (Dallas Cowboys), Myles Garrett (Cleveland Browns), Von Miller (Buffalo Bills), and Khalil Mack (Los Angeles Chargers) as the most challenging pass rushers he’s played against.
If there’s anything that for certain, it’s that the matchup between these two will continue to be one of the most entertaining to watch in the NFC.
