Tributes pour in for 'true gentleman' Dublin city centre cafe owner following his death

Tributes have been pouring in for well-known Dublin cafe owner Gerry Horgan following his death.

Mr Horgan passed away at St Vincent's Hospital on 31 March.

He was well-known as the owner of the highly popular Gerry's Cafe which was located on Montague Street in Dublin's city centre.

The beloved cafe closed last July after over 40 years in business.

Mr Horgan will be laid to rest on Saturday to the Church of the Holy Name, Beechwood Avenue for funeral mass at 11am, before interment on Monday at 12 noon at St Mary's Cemetery, Enniscorthy.

The notice on RIP.ie reads: "Gerry Horgan (Ranelagh, Dublin and formerly Court Street in Enniscorthy and Gerry's Cafe Montague Street, Dublin) March 31, peacefully surrounded by his family, in the loving arms of all the staff in the Redwood Ward at St. Vincent's Private Hospital.

"Husband of the recently deceased Mary and loving father of Olwyn and Daire. Predeceased by his mother and father, brother John and sister Carmel, loved by his sisters Mary and Margaret, brother Michael, son-in-law Stephen, nephew Nicholas and his wife Sarah, god-daughter Alex, nieces, nephews and friends."

Since the news of his passing on Thursday, hundreds of people have been sending their condolences to the his family describing Gerry as a "hard-working, lovely man" and "true gentleman."

One person wrote: "R.i.p Gerry a true gentleman and made the best fry you could get in town."

A second wrote: "Gerry was a lovely man so sad to read of his passing. May he RIP."

A third person said: " I used to go a lot to Gerry’s and he made me many a breakfast over the years, I’ve very fond memories of Gerry and his cafe. Rip Gerry a legend and a gent."

A fourth said: "RIP Gerry, hard-worker and truly lovely man."
