Tributes pour in for 'one in a million' Glasgow dad after tragic death

Tributes have been paid to a Glasgow dad who died after being hit by a lorry.

Ben Miller, 39, sadly passed away late at night on Saturday, June 3, after a tragic crash on the M74 near the on-ramp from Polmadie, Junction 1A.

The incident happened at around 11.35pm with police and emergency crews racing to the scene after receiving reports of a male being knocked down by a HGV - however, Ben was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Heartfelt tributes are now pouring in for the young dad of two, with friends taking to social media to share their devastation.

One colleague posted: "Ben you are deeply missed by all of your colleagues, the office is not the same without you. You brought a smile to our faces every day with your wit and jokes. You were such a caring, kind-hearted soul. Rest easy my friend."

Ben, his wife, and friends shared a love for musical theatre: "Cheers to the good times we had....the laughter, musical theatre goss and friendship."

One shocked friend posted: "I am absolutely devastated to hear this. I can’t believe it. I wish I was there to hold him."

Ben's loving family said they are "deeply shocked" by the sudden passing.

In a statement released through Police Scotland, they said: "We are deeply shocked at Ben's sudden passing.

“Ben leaves behind a close family and many loving friends, and we are very grateful for all the messages of love and support that we have received.

“We ask that our wishes for privacy at this difficult time are respected.”

Officers are appealing for witnesses as they try to establish the full circumstances surrounding the tragic crash.

Sergeant John Houston, Glasgow Road Policing, said: “Our thoughts remain with Mr Miller’s family and friends at this time.

“We are continuing with our enquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding the crash.

“I would like to speak to anyone who was in the area and may have seen what happened who hasn’t yet spoken to police to contact 101, quoting reference number 5187 of June 3.”
