Tributes have poured in for Lanarkshire TV legend and star of Hinge and Bracket, George Logan, who passed away.
The family of the Rutherglen entertainer, who was best known for his role as Dr Evadne Hinge, in the long-running musical duo, confirmed that he sadly died at the age of 78 last night.
George spent many years in the town and attended Rutherglen Academy, which closed down over 50 years ago, alongside his younger brother David, before making his break to stardom.
Many locals have shared their fond memories of George from his time at school on social media, and one said: “I remember George from Rutherglen Academy. His younger brother Barry (David Barrington Logan) was in my class. RIP George.”
George released a book, ‘A Boy Called Audrey’, where he discussed his experience growing up gay in Scotland in the 60s.
Before their series Hinge and Bracket, from 1978 to 1981, and Dear Ladies, from 1983 to 1984, George and Patrick debuted their own drag act at the 1974 Edinburgh Festival.
The two even appeared more than 15 times for royalty and performed on two Royal Variety shows.
The actor, who spent much of his later life in France, took a lot from his time in the Royal Burgh and revealed a couple of years ago that he based a lot of his character Hinge’s mannerisms on people he knew growing up.
His death has had a huge impact on those in showbusiness, with broadcaster and author Gyles Brandreth, who scripted the TV series and specials of Dear Ladies with Hinge and Bracket, taking to social media to say: “George Logan was a very funny, very brilliant man - a wonderful musician & a great entertainer.
"His creation, Dr Evadne Hinge, was beautifully observed & gloriously brought to life with his stage partner Patrick Fyffe as the irrepressible Dame Hilda Bracket. They were such fun!”
Writer Julian Dutton added: "RIP George Logan, Evadne Hinge of Hinge & Bracket. What a fine act, so redolent of those gentlewomen in Ealing comedies who resided in shabby-genteel hotels.
"With Paul O'Grady and Barry Humphries gone, drag-with-character has lost another wonderful artiste."
Despite his passing, his work, the memories and laughter he created for people will live on forever.
