Tributes paid to 'kind-hearted soul' as young man killed in Galway crash named

A young man who tragically died following a road collision in Co Galway is being remembered as "a fine human being" who was "cherished" by everyone who knew him.

Daniel Monaghan, from Newcastle in Galway, was killed in the single-vehicle motorcycle crash on Monday.

The incident happened at around 7:30pm on Monday on Bothar na dTreabh in Galway City.

Daniel, who was in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Tributes have been pouring in for the popular man who was well known at St Nicholas Market where he worked.

One person said: "I'm shocked and saddened to hear this....to his family I send my love. He was a customer and we always had great chats... he was always talking and smiling about his niece he was a proud uncle that's for sure.... a happy smiley uplifting guy I'll miss our chats .... May he rest and sleep well I'm sorry for yer loss..."

A second said: "So sorry on the loss of Daniel. It was a pleasure to know and have Daniel visit my home, may he rest in peace."

A third commented: "RIP Dan, you were a fine human being, an open, considerate, and kind-hearted soul. Galway Market is a richer place for having known you. So sorry for your loss Keturah, Jack, Michael, and family. Peace love and courage for the times ahead."

A fourth wrote: "Tragic loss of a lovely young man... I never got to know you for very long or much thereafter but it was a pleasure to know and work alongside you. Rip, Danny, 'Blue'(eyes) we called him."

Someone else said: "RIP Daniel, Condolences to your family and many friends, look after them Daniel. You were obviously a very loved and cherished young man by everyone who had the great pleasure of knowing you. God gets to choose the best for his garden of rest. Bless you all xx."

Another person added: "Deepest sympathy to the Monaghan family Dan was a happy go lucky man and a gentleman may he rest in peace."

While one said: "Deepest sympathy to all the family on the sad passing of Dan. Dan was such a lovely, happy person. May he rest in peace."

Daniel will be laid to rest following a funeral Mass at St Nicholas' Collegiate Church on Saturday at 1pm.

A notice on RIP.ie reads: "Newcastle, Galway. March 7th, 2022. Tragically, following a road traffic accident. Daniel, predeceased recently by his Grandmother Christine (Monaghan). Adored son of Keturah (Carter) and John.

"Cherished brother of Michael and Jack, much loved uncle of Mila, Delilah and Alyssa, deeply regretted by Michael’s partner Stephanie and Jack’s partner Mairead, uncles Paul and Jason, his wide circle of friends in St. Nicholas Market, Galway, GTI and beyond."

"Daniel will be reposing at his brother Jack’s residence in Tooreen, Ballinderreen, Kilcolgan, Co. Galway, Eircode (H91 R81V), this Friday evening, March 11th, 2022, from 5.30pm to 8pm.

"Removal on Saturday morning, March 12th, 2022, to St. Nicholas' Collegiate Church, Lombard Street, Galway (H91 PY20), to arrive for funeral service at 1pm, cremation to follow in Shannon Crematorium at 4.30pm.

"Family flowers only, by request, donations, if desired, to The Children of Ukraine Crisis Fund."
