Tributes are pouring in for a renowned Irish musician following his death last week at the age of 61
Cathal Coughlan, originally from Glounthaune in Cork but who lived in London since the mid-80s, passed away on May 18 following a lengthy illness.
The talented singer and songwriter was best known as the lead singer of indie bands Microdisney and Fatima Mansions and also had a successful solo career.

In a statement his family said that he "slipped away peacefully in hospital after a long illness".
People took to social media to pay tribute as one person wrote: "Shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of Cathal Coughlan. One of Ireland's greatest frontmen and songwriters has left us. His death leaves a void in Irish music that can never be filled. The live stage will miss his intense presence. RIP!"
Tim Burgess, the frontman for the Charlatans, wrote: "Cathal Coughlan, music genius, has left this realm. His brilliant songs remain. Play them loud and remember him."
In another wrote a heartbreaking tribute, a friend wrote: "I'm so sorry to say that my dear friend Cathal Coughlan has passed away. I have no words at the moment. Just sadness and anger really."
He is survived by his wife Julie. A memorial ceremony for Coughlan will take place for his close friends and family in the next few weeks.
