Tributes flow following death of 'wonderful' Dublin City University professor

Tributes have poured in after the sudden death of a "wonderful, wise and kind" Dublin City University Professor.

The DCU community have been left "devastated" by the loss of Vicky Conway, an associate professor at DCU School of Law and Government and an expert on policing. A spokesperson for the department said: "We are terribly sad to have to share the passing of our colleague Vicky Conway.

"She was a wonderful person, wise and kind, and we will miss her." The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at DCU also expressed their condolences saying: "From across the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences we extend our sincere and deepest condolences to the family and friends of our dear colleague Vicky Conway, who will be sadly missed by all of us here at DCU and by all of her students. RIP."

Dr Conway joined DCU in July 2015 after having worked in the University of Kent, Queen's University Belfast, the University of Limerick, and the University of Leeds. She was made Associate Professor of Law in 2017 and was the School's first Convenor of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion.

Dr Conway started a podcast in 2020 called Policed in Ireland that explored experiences people have with law enforcement. She was a leading researcher on policing in Ireland with a focus on the intersection between social change, police culture and police accountability.

Students and colleagues have taken to social media to express their heartbreak with one person saying: "Absolutely devastated to read this."

Another person added: "Absolutely heartbreaking to read this. Vicky was such a wonderful ally to the Stardust Campaign." A third person said: "Really lost hearing the news today about Vicky. The absolute best of us. Rest in power, Dr. Conway."
