Tributes flood in to Paisley man Gordon Don with 'music scene a darker place'

Tributes have been paid to a Paisley man found dead at Glencoe.

The body of Gordon Don was discovered in the water at Lochan Na Craoibhe on Wednesday, June 29. Police yesterday identified him and informed his family.

The 48-year-old's 'sudden death' is not being treated as suspicious. In a short statement, his family said “Gordon has gone too soon. He will be sadly missed by his family and everyone who knew him.”

Gordon has been remembered as a valuable member of Paisley's music scene, where he was known as Delta Gordy. In a tribute online, one person said the music scene was "a darker place" without him.

He said: "The local music scene in Glasgow is a darker place this morning. We heard yesterday through the grapevine that one of our best friends and biggest supporters at the NHC, the Ice Box, and all around the Glasgow scene had passed away.

"A gem of a guy, who had time for everyone, and had such a passion for all sorts of music, but particularly his love for old school blues. I had the pleasure of taking a few photos of him doing what he loved best, and this is how I'll always remember him."

Paisley Daily Express columnist Tommy McGrory, who runs The Bungalow venue in Shuttle Street, said: “He was always out and about. I knew him first of all through the Status Quo scene, he was a big fan of theirs and used to come to see tribute bands.

“In Paisley, he went to a lot of open mic nights, he liked blues music. He was a quiet guy, a nice guy. He was always there, always doing his thing.

“It’s a sad loss.”

Gordon was a regular at The Keg’s open mic nights.

A tribute on the venue's Facebook page read: “Sad news for The Keg and the music scene in general. We have lost one of life’s ultimate gentlemen.

“Anyone that had the pleasure of knowing Delta Gordy was surely blessed. He was one of our Original Open Mic Performers and what a delight he was to us all of us. “Not very rock n roll of us but in the words of ABBA...Thank You For The Music Gordy.

“You’ll truly be missed from us all at The Keg.
