Tributes continue to pour in as former teammate posts viral clip of Red Óg Murphy striking an impossible score

Tributes continue to pour in for Red Óg Murphy after the young Sligo footballer tragically lost his life.

The DCU student featured in all 12 of Sligo's league and championship games between 2020 and 2021, and enjoyed success at university level having recently been named on the Sigerson Team of the Year.

Many tributes have been paid to the young man from Curry, and another which came on Twitter from Offaly man Shane Tierney did a lot to outline the talent and confidence Red Óg possessed.

Taken from a DCU game, Tierney posted the clip alongside a dialogue between himself and Red Óg which set the scene.

The clip begins with DCU winning a sideline ball very close to the end line, and Tierney goes to collect the ball. Red Óg is then scene running over to intervene and Tierney's post explains the discussion that was had at the time.

"Give me that, I am hitting it," Murphy said.

To which Tierney responded: "It's a sideline, not a 45."

And finally, Murphy said: "Yeah I know, give me it."

The clip then goes on to show Red Óg composing himself out on the sideline before striking a beautiful point over from a nigh-on impossible angle.

Other tributes have come in from all around the GAA community and beyond.

A GPA statement read: "We remember Red Óg Murphy, a young man gone far too early.

"To his family, loved ones, friends and teammates; our hearts are broken for you. Players across Ireland have lost one of their own. May he rest in peace."

Tubbercurry parish priest Fr Leo Henry said: "The parish and community and the Murphy family - we are all one big family.

"We are united in life, and in grief, and in celebrating Red Óg's wonderful short life."
