Trey Lance Reveals How Dak Prescott Welcomed Him to Cowboys

Trey Lance is settling into his new surroundings in Dallas following the trade that sent him from the 49ers to the Cowboys last week.

That process has been made easier by the man Lance was brought to Dallas to back up, Dak Prescott.

Lance spoke highly of Prescott, who the 23-year-old said welcomed him to the team “with open arms” and is someone he’s eager to learn from as he adapts to a new offensive system.

“The type of person that he is, first and foremost. I think everyone knows that, with the Walter Payton Man of the Year and things like that, how he treats people... The few conversations I had with him, just texting him when I had my ankle injury, things like that. Just the type of person he is. And obviously the football stuff kind of speaks for itself. I’m still trying to learn Day 1 install, so for me, obviously got a long way to go there. But definitely looking forward to being a sponge, just soaking up everything I can from him,” said Lance, via ESPN’s Todd Archer.

Orr: Cowboys’ Trade for Trey Lance May Come With Unintended Consequences

Lance indicated that when he suffered an ankle injury last season, Prescott, who suffered a dislocated and fractured right ankle during the 2020 season, was among those to reach out to him.

The former No. 3 pick was traded to the Cowboys on Friday in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the 2024 NFL draft. The 49ers moved on from Lance after just four career starts, but he seems optimistic about landing in Dallas and playing behind Prescott, someone it appears he has great respect for.
