Jacksonville Jaguars star quarterback Trevor Lawrence spectacularly threw four interceptions in a horrific first half on his playoff debut.
Lawrence threw four picks as the Los Angeles Chargers took hold of the postseason clash on Wild Card weekend. The Chargers - who are in the playoffs by virtue of a wild card spot - dominated the opening stages to move to a commanding 27-0 lead as Lawrence fell apart.
The 23-year-old completed just four of 16 passes for 30 yards as his playoff debut went from bad to worse. The first pass of his postseason bow was intercepted before Chargers cornerback Asante Samuel Jr snagged three picks himself.
Amid a raucous crowd at TIAA Bank Field, Lawrence was intercepted on the second play of the game. Linebacker Drue Tranquill made the play, with running back Austin Ekeler scoring a 13-yard touchdown shortly after.
Later in the first quarter, Samuel broke up a deep pass attempt before intercepting Lawrence once again. Ekeler added another touchdown on a six-yard rushing touchdown two plays later to make the score 17-0.
Ultimately, the sophomore quarterback struggled to deal with the Chargers defence, which dominated with zone coverage while Samuel scored a hat-trick of interceptions on a playoff debut to remember. Lawrence, on the other hand, will look to move forwards and learn from the harrowing experience.
He managed to get the Jaguars offence going and even threw a touchdown pass to tight end Evan Engram to cut the Chargers' lead to 20 points with the score reading 27-7 at half time. The clash in Florida is the second match of the NFL playoffs after the San Francisco 49ers advanced past the Seattle Seahawks earlier on Saturday.
